Two medullary projections, oblong, and of a whitish appearance, which proceed from each side of the upper extremity of the medulla oblongata, and contribute to the formation of the cerebellum. The posterior pyramids- fasciculi graciles- are described as distinct from the restiform bodies. They are situate in contact with each other, one on each side of the posterior median fissure. They become closely applied to the restiform bodies, and have been considered to be blended with them, and to proceed to form the cerebellum. According to some, they ascend to the cerebrum.
