Diminutive of Corallium: Muscus maritimus, Corallina officinalis, Brion, Corallina alba, Sea Coralline, White Worm-weed, (F.) Coralline blanche. The production of an animal, which belongs to the class Polypi, and which is found in all the seas of Europe; - particularly in the Mediterranean. It has the appearance of a plant, is homogeneous, an inch or two in height, of a white, reddish, or greenish colour, salt taste, and marine smell. It contains gelatin, albumen, chloride of sodium, phosphate, carbonate, and sulphate of lime, carbonate of magnesia, silica, oxide of iron, and a colouring principle. It was once much used as vermifuge; but is not now employed.
