[Greek] A genus of Schizomycetes consisting of apparently branched, septate filaments with very delicate sheath. C. asteroides, Streptothrix Eppingeri. C. dichotoma, found in impure water. C. Foersteri, Streptothrix Foersteri. C. liquefaciens, Streptothrix alba. C. ochracea, found in water containing ferrous carbonate, which it oxidizes to ferric hydrate, thus causing deposition of iron.
