An English novelist; born (Moody) in East Retford, Nottingham, 1799; died at Linwood, Hampshire, Jan. 26, 1861. She married a captain in the army, saw much high life, and wrote of it in many novels. "Women as They Are" (1830), "Mothers and Daughters" (1831), and "Cecil" (1845) are the best known of her works.
