Bilharz disease, Egyptian hematuria, a morbid state caused by the presence in the organism of some species of Bilharzia, or Schistosomum (blood flukes); the symptoms are caused chiefly by the presence of the eggs in the bladder, rectum, or liver and spleen, and consist in hematuria and irritation of the bladder and rectum, or signs pointing to the liver and spleen with ascites and cachexia.
