(1813-1887), son of the eminent Rev. Dr. Lyman Beecher, and from 1847 to his death pastor of a great congregation in Brooklyn, had always an active part in public affairs. In 1863 he made many speeches in England, endeavoring to influence English public opinion in favor of the Northern cause in the Civil War.
