Surgeon to Napoleon and historian of St. Helena; born in Ireland in 1786. He accompanied Bonaparte into exile and was his intimate associate until dismissed from his post July, 1818, as a consequence of his intense partisanship for the unfortunate Emperor. His published works include many famous and valuable reminiscences of Napoleon; among them are "Napoleon in Exile: or a Voice from St. Helena", "The Opinions and Reflections of Napoleon" 2 vols.). He died in London, January 3, 1836.
