An American clergyman and miscellaneous writer; born in Lexington, Mass., Sept. 21, 1802; died at Cambridge, April 21, 1892. In 1865 he retired from ministerial work. Included in his numerous publications are: "The Young Man's Friend" (1836); "Man, a Soul" (1842); "The Higher Education" (1871); Personal Recollections of Rev. Dr. Channing" (1874-75); "Immortality in the Light of Scripture and Science" (1876); and "Education of Old Age" (1884).
