A native of Mexico, but naturalized in most parts of the world. Ord. Papaveracese. Sex. Syst. Polyandria Monogynia. The juice resembles gamboge, and has been nsed as a hydragogue. The seeds are employed in the West Indies as a substitute for ipecacuanha. They are also used as a cathartic.
