An American historian and journalist; born at Duxbury, Mass., Nov. 19, 1765; died at Boston, Oct. 26, 1843. Originally a Congregational divine, he became Secretary of State of Massachusetts (1812-24), and edited the Boston Gazette (1826). He wrote: "History of Massachusetts, 1764-1820"; "History of the Federal Government"; etc.
