Or the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States of America. This institution, after the model of the French Academy of Sciences, and whose plan was brought to America, in 1788, by the Chevalier Quesnay de Beaurepaire, was to have been located at Richmond, Va. A large sum was subscribed by the citizens of Richmond and by wealthy planters, and one professor, Dr. Jean Rouelle, was appointed, but the plan failed.
