An American poet, twin brother of Lewis Gaylord; born in Otisco, N. Y., March 5, 1810; died in Philadelphia, Pa., June 12, 1841. He became associate editor of the Columbian Star, a religious weekly paper (1830), but resigned shortly after to take charge of the Philadelphia Gazette. His longest poem is "The Spirit of Life" (1833). A complete edition of his poems, edited by his brother, appeared in 1847.
