(1737-1820), went to England as an agent of the New Hampshire colony in 1765 and was appointed Governor, serving till 1775. He was an able Governor and did much to increase the importance and prosperity of the colony. He became unpopular by complying with a request for aid by the British in Boston and went to England in 1775. He was Governor of Nova Scotia from 1792 to 1808.
