To secure international uniformity and precision in standards of weight and measure an international bureau was established at Paris by a convention concluded May 20, 1875, between the United States, Germany, Austro-Hungary, Belgium, Brazil, the Argentine Confederation, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Sweden and Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and Venezuela.
