(1813-1883), was admitted to the bar in 1834. He was a member of the Maine Legislature from 1842 to 1843. He represented Maine in the U. S. Congress as a Whig from 1851 to 1861. He was Governor of Maine from 1861 to 1863, and Collector of Customs at Portland from 1863 to 1877.
