1. For bile in the urine: add to the suspected urine quinine bisulphate, ammonia, sulphuric acid, sugar, and alcohol; if bile-pigments are present a violet color will be produced. 2. For pus in the urine: the urine is acidified with acetic acid and filtered; to the filtrate guaiac is added, when a dark blue color indicates the presence of pus.
