Any scheme for a system of writing which will be universally intelligible. This system must consist of signs for all conceivable things ; it implies, therefore, that the framers of it have mastered the whole of human knowledge, and can sit in judgment on it. It may be supposed that not much has been done towards the realizing of such schemes.
