A term proposed by Loeffler to include the group of bacteria causing infection clinically identical with typhoid fever; this group comprises the typhoid bacillus, the paratyphoid and paracolon bacilli, Bacillus fcecalis alkaligenes, B. psittacosis, B. enteritidis, and B. coli.
