Sweden was the first nation to offer voluntarily her friendship to the United States. A treaty of amity and commerce was concluded in 1783. With Sweden and Norway a commercial treaty was concluded in 1816, and another in 1827. An extradition convention was concluded in 1860, and a naturalization convention in 1869. A new extradition treaty was concluded January 14, 1893.
