An Icelandic scholar and critic; born in Gullbringasysla, Feb. 24, 1791; died at Reikiavik, Aug. 17, 1852. He investigated ably the native antiquities, edited a series of Icelandic historical works, and completed a "Poetic Lexicon of the Ancient Tongue of the North" (1855-60), published posthumously.
