An American poet and prose-writer; born in Warwick, Mass., June 25, 1803; died at New Orleans, La., March 6, 1844. He began the publication of the North American Magazine in 1833; and continued to edit and publish it for five years. His published volumes include "Lays of Melpomene" (1824); "Cities of the Plain" (1828); "Poems and Prose Writings" (1840).
