Sometimes used synonymously with astringent, but generally applied to a substance employed to arrest hemorrhage, - Enoemon. A mechanical styptic is one that arrests the flow of blood, by being applied immediately to the mouth of the bleeding vessel, or by inducing a coagulum, mechanically, in it. A chymical styptic is one which coagulates, chymically, the blood around a bleeding orifice.
