(1784-1857), was a member of the Virginia Legislature from 1804 to 1820. He represented Virginia in the U. S. Congress as a Democrat from 1823 to 1834, when he resigned. He served as Speaker of the House from 1827 to 1834. He was Minister to England from 1836 to 1841.
