-
A term of no definite meaning, as is obvious from these various words having been considered its synonymes. By some, it is defined to be- a disease of the osseous system, in which the texture of the bone dilates, seeming to be distended with air, and constituting a variety of osteo-sarcoma. By others, it is considered to be a tumour arising from an internal caries of a bone; occurring most frequently in the carpus or tarsus. The term itself is a translation from the Arabic of Rhazes. See, also, Hydrarthrus, and Mollities Ossium.
