An eminent Danish religious writer; born at Copenhagen, May 5, 1813; died there, Nov. 11, 1835. He placed the philosophical basis of Christianity in personal faith; and decried "official" Christianity, making religion a personal matter between each soul and the Supreme Being. His principal work was "Enten-Eller" (Either- Or: 4th ed. 1878).
