An eminent Russian mathematician, said to be the greatest woman mathematician of any age; born in Moscow, 1850; died at Stockholm, 1891, where she was professor of mathematics at the University. See her "Recollections of Childhood", with a biography by the Duchess of Cajanello (Anne Charlotte Leffler-Edgren). Her works include theses on "Rotation"; "The Laplace Hypothesis"; "Light"; etc. She also wrote some popular novels under the pseudonym "Tanya Rerevski"; among them "The Private Tutor", "The Rajevski Sisters", etc.
