An infectious disease in the mountainous parts of Scotland, viewed to be of the venereal kind. Siwin, in the Keltic, means raspberry; and it is said that, in this affection, fungi appear like raspberries. From siwin, the inhabitants have made sievin, sibben, sibbens, and sivvens. By some, this affection is regarded as a complication of the venereal and itch. In the Orkneys, sibbens means itch. - Jamieson.
