A war between England and Prussia on the one hand, and France and Austria on the other, lasting from 1756 to 1763. A part of it went on in India, and a part in America. The latter phase of it is in American history called the French and Indian War. The war was concluded by the Treaty of Paris in 1763, France losing Canada and Louisiana. (See French and Indian War.)
