An Italian silver coin of different value in the different states in which it was issued. The Genoese scudo is equivalent to about $1.30; the Roman, $1.05; the Sardinian and Milanese, 97 cents. This coin is gradually disappearing before the decimal coinage of the Italian kingdom, but the name is sometimes given to the piece of 5 lire (about 97 cents). The old Roman gold scudo was worth 10 silver scudi.
