An American prose-writer; born in Natchez, Miss., Feb. 16, 1829; died in New Orleans, La., July 4, 1879. She was a linguist and a student of Sanskrit. Her literary work began with the (Episcopal) Churchman. Included in her writings are: "Lucia Dare" (1867); "Panola, a Tale of Louisiana" (1877); "Atalie"; and "Agnes Graham". She was amanuensis to Jefferson Davis in the preparation of his "Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government".
