October 25, 1861, Colonel Kelly, who was then guarding the Allegheny section of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, surprised a Confederate battalion. Sixty prisoners were taken besides all the camp equipage, provisions and munitions. Colonel Wallace, of Indiana, also, June, 1861, routed a Confederate force from Romney.
