All the recti muscles of the eye, four in number, arise from the bottom of the orbit, and are inserted into the sclerotic coat of the eye. The Rectus externus, (F.) Droit externe. Irascible ou Abducteur, is divided, at its posterior extremity, into two portions, one of which is attached to the outer part of the foramen opticum, and the other to the sphenoid bone.
