That one of a series of chlorids which contains the smallest relative amount of chlorin. Analogous compounds of bromin, iodin, oxygen, and sulphur are called respectively the protobromid, proto-iodid (or protiodid), protoxid, and protosulphid. This nomenclature is almost obsolete.
