Name given to a sect of physicians, at the head of whom was Athenaeus, who made health and disease to consist in the different proportions of an element-which they called Pneuma,-to those of the other elementary principles. This was a fancied spiritual principle, which the Stoics regarded as an element, different from water, air, earth and fire;- the sole elementary principles previously admitted.
