Plombieres is a town in the department of the Vosges, 17 leagues from Nancy, and two from Remiremont. Here are several sources of thermal water. That which is called Saponaceous (F.) Savonneuse, is formed of the subcarbonate and sulphate of soda, chloride of sodium, silica, carbonate of lime, and much vegeto-animal matter. This last component, when held in solution by means of the subcarbonate of soda, gives to the water an unctuous character. This is the origin of its name. The waters of Plombieres are employed as solvents in engorgements of the abdominal viscera, and as alteratives in chronic diseases of the skin.
