A Portuguese poet (1741-1811), noted for his satires, ridiculing the manners of his day. One of them, on the ex-Minister Pombal, procured for him a position as secretary in the Ministry of the Interior. "Poetical Works" (Lisbon, 1802; new ed., 1861).
