was admitted as a State November 8, 1889. It was organized as a territory in 1864. It formed a part of the Louisiana cession. In 1890 and 1891 a deadlock in the Legislature was caused by a disputed election in Silver Bow County. Since its admission as a State Montana has been Republican. The population in 1890 was 132, 159.
