A very compound electuary, into which entered- Myrrh of Arabia, Saffron, Agaric, Ginger, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Garlic, Mustard, Birthwort, Galbanum, Castor, Long pepper, Opoponax, Bdellium, Gum Arabic, Opium, Gentian, Orris, Sagapenum, Valerian, Acacia, Hypericum, Canary wine, Honey, &c. It was invented by Mithridates, king of Pontus and Bithynia, and was formerly regarded as alexipharmic. It is little used at the present day, and, from its heterogeneous nature, should be wholly abandoned.
