A Russian epic poet; born Oct. 25, 1733; died at Moscow, Oct. 9, 1806. His principal works were the "Rossiad" (1785), in 12 cantos, on the conquest of Kazan, and "Vladimir" (1786), in 18 cantos, on the conversion of St. Vladimir.
