A prefix noting smallness. (1) When prefixed to a term denoting a unit of any kind it denotes the one-millionth of such unit (the term micromillimeter is an exception, or rather is incorrect); (2) applied to words noting chemical examination, methods, etc., it means that minimal quantities of the substance to be examined are used-a drop or two, for example, in place of one or more cubic centimeters; see Bang's method.
