A German dramatist and novelist; born at Prague, 1834; died at Vienna, Feb. 25, 1888. He was a successful writer of comedies, of which one of the best known was "Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern" (1878). Others were: "The Blank Lottery"; "Miss Councillor of Commerce". "The Bank Barons" (2 vols., 1877) deserves mention.
