A substance of a muco-saccharine nature, prepared by the Apis mellif'ica, or common bee, which collects it from the nectaries of flowers. Honey is employed as aliment, condiment, and medicine. It is demulcent and aperient; and is prescribed as an adjunct to gargles in cynanche tonsillaris, &c. It is, at times, used as a detergent to foul ulcers. Virgin Honey, is that which flows from the wax spontaneously.
