A Spanish historian and scholar; born in Abalos, Nov. 9, 1765; died Oct. 8, 1844. He paid particular attention to geographical science and to the historical side of discovery, his best work being "Collection of Voyages and Discoveries Made by the Spaniards since the End of the Fifteenth Century" (1825-37).
