The bark is possessed of tonic properties, resembling those of cascarilla, canella, etc. The same may be said of the Magnolia tripetala seu Umbrella, Umbrella tree; the M. acuminata or Cucumber tree, the M. grandiflora and M. macrophylla, Laurel, Elk wood, Silverleaf, Big leaf, White Bay, Beaver Tree, Elk bark,Big bloom. Magnolia (Ph. U. S.), is the bark of Magnolia glauca, M. acumiuata, and M. tripetala.
