A plantation in what is now the State of Maine, purchased April 7, 1643, by George Cleves, of Casco, and Alexander Rigby, of England. Cleves immediately set up his authority, claiming jurisdiction as deputy-president of the province of Lygonia, over a large portion of the territory granted to Ferdinando Gorges in 1639. The Massachusetts Bay government was called in as arbitrator, and decided in favor of Cleves and Rigby In 1646, after much dispute.
