An English poet and historical writer (1781-1864); daughter of John Aikin (1747-1822), a physician and author, from whom she received a thorough classical education; subsequently devoted herself to the study of English history and literature. Her works include: "Epistles on Women" (1810); "Lorimer" (1814), a tale; "Memoirs of the Court of Elizabeth" (1818); "Memoirs of the Court of James I". (1822); "Memoirs of the Court and Reign of Charles I". (1833); "Life of Addison" (1843).
