A small settlement on the Ohio River in colonial times, notable from the fact that it was the place in which the Virginia government, by a treaty with Indians, June 13, 1752, secured permission to erect a fort at the forks of the Ohio. The undertaking was delayed, and the French anticipated it by building Fort Duquesne.
