A great Roman historian; born at Patavium (Padua), 59 B.C.; died there, 17 A.D. He wrote the "History of Rome from the Founding of the City" in 142 "books", of which only 35 have come down to us,-books 1-10, reaching to the year 293 B.C., and books 21-45, covering the years 218-167 B. C.; of the lost books some fragments remain.
