A Russian poet and prose writer (1817-60), son of the following. From 1846 he was the leader of the Slavophile party, and one of the most active contributors to all periodicals of that tendency. Works: "The Life of the Old Slavs in General and of the Russians in Particular" (1852); "Prince Lupovickij", a comedy (1857); "Oleg before Constantinople", a dramatic parody (1858); "Lyrics".
