A German historian; born at Braunau in Bohemia, April 12, 1839. He wrote: "Animism in its Relations to the Ancient Hebrew Religion" (1880); "Religions of the European Culture-Peoples" (1881); "Christianism, Popular Beliefs, and Popular Usages" (1882); "History of the Family" (1885); "History of Civilization in its Leading Features" (1886); "History of German Manners and Morals" (1889).
